How to Recover Deleted
Photos
Using Photo Recovery Software to Recover
Deleted Pictures
The quickest and easiest way to recover deleted photos
from either a PC or camera memory card is to use a
specialist photo recovery software package.
One of the best photo recovery software
products
is
Recover My
Photos
We recommend Recover My Photos as a very easy to
use package that provides consistently good results in recovering deleted
photos and movies.
Recover My Photos allows
you to recover deleted photos, movie files and sound files directly from PCs, cameras, memory cards, USB
memory sticks etc.
It recovers a huge variety of filetypes, including:
JPEG, TIFF, BMP, CRW, NEF, RAW and many more photo filetypes
AVI, MPEG, MOV and WAV movie and sound filetypes and more
Recover My Photos works on Windows 98/ME/NT/2000/XP/2003 and Vista
operating systems.
Recover My Photos recovers deleted pictures and photos lost due to accidental deletion as well as (depending on the
camera model) reformated memory cards in many instances.
We recommend you download and use the free trial version of Recover My Photos to scan the device containing your deleted pictures or
movies. This will display on screen exactly what deleted photo files can be recovered. You can select one, or
several, or all deleted photos for recovery quickly and simply.
The procedure for recovering deleted photos using Recover My Photos is as
follows:
Step 1
The first step is to install the free demo version of the software.Click here
to download and install Recover My Photos onto your PC. (Download links etc will open in a new window)
A dialogue box like the one shown will open. Click
"Save File" to download the file to your desktop or preferred location.
Remember, if the deleted pictures you wish to recover were on your PC then
you should download the software to a different PC and copy it to a device such as a USB memory stick and run it
from that. Do not copy it direct to the PC concerned if at all possible.
Step 2
Connect your digital camera, or phone to the PC or place your memory card
(CompactFlash card, SD card etc) into a card reader connected to the PC.
This step does not apply if the deleted photos are on the PC itself.
Step 3 Then run Recover My Photos.
After the opening screen, you will be presented with a choice of what scan type you wish to run. The three
different scan options provide for progressively greater degrees of analysis.
Fast Search: Searches for recently deleted photos and folders. This is the fastest
scan.
Complete Search:
Searches for recently deleted photos, folders and 'lost' files. It takes longer than a fast scan but may
potentially find many more files.
Deep Scan: Searches for photo files on a device that has been
reformatted. This can take a long time to complete.
As it's the quickest option, try the Fast Scan first.
If you have only just deleted the photos and nothing else has been saved to the device, this may provide the
fastest route to recovering your deleted pictures.
If this search option doesn't find the deleted pictures you want to recover, you can subsequently try the Complete
Search option followed by the Deep Scan option if neccessary.
Click the 'Next' button to proceed to the Drive Selection screen as shown here, then select the PC drives or
attached camera, memory card,USB stick, etc, as appropriate.

This image shows the drives selected for a cell phone which has
been connected to the PC using a USB cable.
The internal memory and the memory card of the phone are shown as separate drives.
In cases where a device such as cell phone or camera has both a memory card and dedicated internal memory, select
both drives to scan.
If you cannot see the drive concerned, check that the device is properly connected to the computer.
If so, and you still can't see the drive, you may need to select the Physical Drive for the device. This will be
the physical drive shown that most closely corresponds in size to that of the device from which you are looking to
recover deleted photos. If no physical drives are shown in the list, go back one stage to the Scan Selection screen
and select 'Manual Options'. On the 'Advanced' Tab, check the box to allow searching of physical
drives.

Click the 'Next' button to proceed to the Filetype Selection screen as shown here.
If you know the specific filetype of your deleted photos, you can use this screen to restrict Recover My Photos to
search just for that filetype.
This will improve the speed of the search and return only those results that are appropriate more quickly.
At least one filetype must be selected. If desired, you may add or remove filetypes during the scan by selecting
the 'Options' tab. The new criteria will only be applied to the remainder of the search.
Step 4
Start the scan.
As Recover my Files starts to find photo images on the device, it builds a list of the deleted photos and file
details. The left hand pane shows the filetypes found and/or the folders they belong to. The right hand pane shows
the filename, size, where the file is located etc.
You should now also be able to view your deleted pictures in the photo recovery preview window as shown in the
example below!

Preview Window showing
Photos that can be Recovered
(opens in a new window)
If you can see the deleted photos you want to recover, they can be selected using the checkbox
alongside each filename. As well as selecting individual photos you can select a group of photos, all photos in a
folder, all photos of a certain filetype etc etc.
To complete the recovery process you will need to buy Recover My
Photos (the full version) to be able to save the
photos.
The free trial version of the software will scan and show you
exactly what deleted pictures can be recovered.
You can actually see the photos it finds displayed on the preview screen.
If you can see a preview image displayed you can be confident
that it will recover deleted photos that you want before buying.

Remember that the more you use the device your deleted pictures are on,
the more likely it is that they will get overwritten.
Follow the above
procedure
as soon as possible
for your best chance of
successful photo recovery
We hope you are able to recover your deleted pictures.
